importing/exporting + naming seniors (LIGHTROOM)

There will be 3 sections going over on how to import photos after photo session is finished, properly naming the files, and lastly exporting the photos for viewing.

importing + renaming

1) Open up light room by clicking this icon.

2) Insert the SD card with the card reader into the computer, then click on the Import button located at the bottom left of the screen (1) or you can click on File > Import Photos and Video… (2). The hotkeys to import is Shift + Ctrl + I

3) This import window will pop up and make sure to click on EOS_DIGITAL (1) and Copy (2) is selected at the top.

4) Click Uncheck All at the bottom (1) then while holding Shift, click on the first photo from the session then click on the last photo from the session (2). It should be highlighted similar to the example below.

5) Press the Spacebar on the keyboard to select the photos (notice the check marks).

6) After making your selections, under File Renaming in the right column, make sure Rename Files is checked off (1) and Template is set to Custom Name - Original File Number (2).

In Custom Text (3), follow these templates when renaming files to the approriate schools:

Aiea = AIEA_Last Name, First Name-Your Initials

Campbell = JCHS_Last Name, First Name-Your Initials

Kaiser = KAISER_Last Name, First Name-Your Initials

Kalaheo = KALAHEO_Last Name, First Name-Your Initials

Kapolei = KAPOLEI_Last Name, First Name-Your Initials

Leilehua = LHS_Last Name, First Name-Your Initials

Maryknoll = MARYKNOLL_Last Name, First Name-Your Initials

Nanakuli = NHIS_Last Name, First Name-Your Initials

Pearl City = PCHS_Last Name, First Name-Your Initials

Example: LHS_Bello, Jon-SP (5)

You can leave Extensions alone (4)

7) Scroll down just a bit in the right column until you see Destination. Expand that tab if its closed. Make sure Into Subfolder is checked off (1) and in the text box next to it (2), you’re going to type out the same file name as you did in Custom Text in the previous step. Make sure Organize is set to Into one folder (3). Expand the images (\\192.168.1.18) (4) tab if it’s not opened, click on the current graduating class year folder (5), and click on the appropriate school (6). In this instance, it would be 2026 Seniors > Leilehua High School. If you did everything correctly, you’ll see a preview folder show up below the folder (7). As more names are inputted into the folder, you might have to scroll down to find the preview folder. It will be in alpha order. Once you’ve done everything correctly, you can click Import (8).

Exporting

Export photos for customer viewing once you’re done cropping them to 8x10 and fixing the exposure/color.

1) Highlight all the photos you want to show the customer and click on the Export button located towards the bottom left of the screen.

2) This window will pop up. Under Export Location, Export To should be set to Same folder as original photo (1). Put in Subfolder should be checked off (2) and in the text box next to it should read CROPPED (3). Under File Settings, make sure Image Format is set to JPEG (4), Quality is 100 (5), and Color Space is set to sRGB IEC61966-2.1 (6). Finally click Export (7).

3) You can check if you did everything correctly by going checking on the folder in images (\\192.168.1.18) (1). This is the folder path of the folders created in the examples above (2). You will know you did everything correctly when you see the CROPPED folder after exporting (3).
